Officer Safety: Awareness for Survival
*This Training is Restricted to Law Enforcement Personnel Only.  This class is Tennessee P.O.S.T. approved.

Each year Law Enforcement Officers are either injured or killed while responding to, on the scene,
or investigating a crime.  While the officer safety training received during basic academy instruction
and regular firearms and non-lethal weapons training provides a basic level of on-scene responsiveness,
a series of FBI studies on Officers killed or assaulted has made it clear that awareness and focused
training can overcome the complacent mindset, which can occur unknowingly, and has been found to play
a significant role in the death and injury of serving personnel.  This training - founded in ethical decision-
making and tactical thinking - is designed to provide the attending officer with an increased level of
awareness to be mindful of - and prepared to deal with - conflict and aggression on-scene when it occurs.

TOPICS INCLUDE:
¦ A review of safety concerns related to specific response calls where Law Enforcement Officers most commonly
    deal with volatile individuals.
¦
A review of the laws, legal restraints and liability issues related to the use of force and its matrix.
¦
Using 'Tactical Thinking' to deal with - and write the report for - potentially violent encounters.
¦
A review of a variety of 'Indicators of Aggression' used to anticipate, avoid, and/or control violent and/or volatile
behavior before - or as it occurs - on-scene.
¦
Examine various methods used to manage aggressive behavior and control on-scene conflict.
¦ Review offender and officer characteristics common to felonious assault.
¦ Examine 'Why Cops Die' to develop mental conditioning applicable to tactical thinking and on-scene
readiness to establish skills that can both support and enhance officer safety efforts.

Presented by an instructor with extensive experience in both traditional and undercover law enforcement, he has
provided training on the development of crisis and domestic, crisis intervention and negotiation skills for over a
decade.  Having worked on and supervised a variety of enforcement related efforts during his career - including
the development of Mandatory Domestic Intervention and Response training - he has consistently researched
and studied officer safety concerns to develop a process of tactical thinking and awareness skills-development
that could support the safety and survival of Law Enforcement Officers on-scene.
